With the recent emergence of lift back midsize sedans, was the Crosstour simply one generation too early for success?

Yes. Same with the ZDX for the Coupe-U-Vs.
However, it’s too early in the game to call the Stinger/Regal/etc. a success. I think certain brands can sell whatever they want because B A D G E (Mercedes GLE Coupe, BMW X4 and X6, Evoque cabriolet?!).

Yes.

Nah, it’s fatal flaw was being ugly.

With all its doors open, I like it. But otherwise I don’t haha. I think they are just like anything else, there are good looking ones and bad looking ones, I think the Crosstour in my eyes was more so the latter.

No, as Longbow said, it was just fugly. Just give us a wagon and be done with it.

I was asking myself the same question the other day, because I saw one. I want to say no, because they’re hideous ... but the also fugly BMW and Mercedes versions of this really fly in the face of that analysis.

So... SUVS are becoming lower and more car like with sweeping roof lines and cars are becoming taller and SUV like with sweeping roof lines.
I suspect that asking for a wagon is out of question?

That was already the fattest generation of Accord and the Crosstour only made it fatter. However, the Crosstour is an objectively great car. My carpooling partner had one and preferred that I drive, so I drove one for a few months in city traffic and freeway traffic. It was roomy, fast enough, economical enough, and pretty nice to drive. It’s only vice is that the visibility is very poor.
I don’t find it attractive, and it looks more like the CUV monstrosities to me than the sedan liftbacks like the A7, Stinger, etc. It would certainly look less out of place in today’s market, though.

The crosstour is a genuinely very ugly car. The stinger and buick are good looking (8/10) with much more cargo room. The Crosstour also directly competed within honda’s own product line, like the CRV/pilot. The cross tour is like Honda’s own Subaru Tribeca, or the chevy malibu Max.

That’s the thing. I liked the idea of the Crosstour, but...ugh...
The Venza looked a bit better, but still...

Yep, just like the orginal Pacifica and Freestyle predicted the crossover trend. Too bad they were so ugly.
Truth be told, I think the only reason Honda didn’t make the new Accord a liftback was because it would be a Crosstour all over again. People within the company would have been pissed.

I’dgo with the Ford Taurus X for that

The Crosstour was branded as a cuv, no?

The Crosstour was trying to be a fastback Subaru Outback but ended up just looking like butt.

Or eventually everything will assimilate so much that we can’t tell one class from another?

I think you may be a bit loopy from the pain meds for your ankle...

I said before, they just missed what BMW did with the x4 and x6. Take a suv, make its back end droopy and lower it by a couple inches and all of a sudden, its an SUV coupe! They should have just called it the CRV coupe and they would have sold millions!

maybe we’ll start 3d printing everything and we go back to coach built exteriors and the only important thing the manufacturer does is the interior?

When we bought our 13 Civic, I told the salesman that the new Civic looked like a smaller Crosstour. He looked at me like I had snakes growing out of my head, but I think there is a definite resemblance. If it’s a sedan, it should have a proper trunk.
![]() 02/28/2018 at 14:57 |

Yes, I do believe it was.
When I purchased my Civic 3 years ago I was talking to the salesman about it. He said he liked the car and it was probably his favorite car on the lot. He said it was quite fun to drive for being what it was.

No, it was too ugly for success. This works
This? Nononon
surprisingly similar actually, but most humans also have similar shapes yet some are better looking than others.

The Maxx was very a wagon. And actually a very decent vehicle all things considered.
Well, at least in SS form. But seriously, it had some great features that are nowhere to be found in anything new... at least not in the same package.

Before the introduction of the crosstour, there was many spy shots of a true tall wagon from Honda. It looked great. Then the crosstour was introduced, and was universally panned because of its looks. It should have been a true wagon. It would still be available today if it were.

I think you meant to say “one generation too ugly”

I loved the Maxx as a kid.
I even had a toy one.

I think I’m the only Oppo/Jalop that can honestly say he had an Accord CrossTour.
And as I’ve said at every opportunity, it was a great car, but it was marketed wrong. It should have had the Accord grill, with a lower stance, and marketed as the Accord Sportback, a poor-man’s Audi A6 instead of an upscale Outback.

The Crosstour post mid cycle refresh looked decent at least. I’d rock one
![]() 02/28/2018 at 16:48 |

I think it would have worked if they made its shape more similar to a lifted wagon like an outback.
![]() 02/28/2018 at 17:14 |

The CrossBore looked like it had absolutely no rear visibility, and I’m pretty sure that’s what turned a few people off.

Is that really the same as the new Regal or 4 series GC? It looks more like the significantly less successful 3 and 5 GTs.

It looks better than the Tesla X maybe the flaw was not making it electric?

The mid-cycle refresh did it a lot of favors. The ass is a little odd. I think the same styling cues on the new Civic hatch are much better executed.
One customer of ours has a black one with 20" VOSSEN wheels. We did black and tan leather with a beige stitch. He called it his “$25,000 Panamera.”
These wheels, actually:
